AuRIns has been actively involved in supporting scholars through the Institute of International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF). This initiative provides fellowships to academics facing threats in their home countries, enabling them to continue their research in safe environments. We have been hosting three scholars to date. Dr. Muneer Mohammed Saleh Alsayadi is an Associate Professor of Therapeutic Nutrition at Ibb University, Yemen, and a visiting researcher at the Atta-ur-Rahman Institute for Natural Product Discovery (AuRIns), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia under the fellowships og Scholar Rescue Fund. His research focuses on natural product chemistry, probiotics, and functional foods. Dr. Alsayadi has co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications. His recent work includes evaluating the phytochemical composition of Yemeni almond cultivars and exploring the antimicrobial potential of traditional herbs. Dr Muneer is currenly carrying out his research at our institute since 2023.
Dr. Mufeda Ahmed Hazea Gazaem is a Yemeni chemist specializing in natural product chemistry and phytochemistry. Affiliated with the Department of Chemistry at the University of Malaya, she has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications focusing on the isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants. Dr. Gazaem is also a Young Affiliate of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the 2020–2025 term, recognized for her contributions to the biological sciences in Yemen. Dr Mufeda was the reciepient of Rescue Fund from 2021 to 2023 and carried out her research at AuRIns.
Dr. Nabil Ali Al-Mekhlafi is an Associate Professor in the Biochemical Technology Program, Department of Chemistry at Thamar University, Yemen. He holds a PhD in Natural Product Chemistry from Universiti Putra Malaysia, awarded in 2011. His research focuses on phytochemical analysis, natural product chemistry, and herbal medicine, with expertise in techniques such as NMR, HPLC, and mass spectrometry. Dr. Al-Mekhlafi has authored over 20 publications, garnering more than 330 citations, and has an H-index of 9. He visited AuRIns from 2019 to 2021 under the fellowships of Scholar Rescue funds.
